Kathryn Depre, CMT, B.S., MTOM
Kathryn has been working as a certified massage therapist since 2009. She has gained massage experience in a variety of settings. From partnering with chiropractors, providing high-end services in a spa setting, curating relaxing in-home sessions, and now working alongside Dr. Jiling Hu, she has gained the experience necessary to meet patient’s needs.
Her massage sessions are always customized to each patient. Many techniques are incorporated to achieve each patient’s massage goals. She is classically trained in Swedish massage and has expanded on this modality through many hours of continuing education. Her technique toolbox includes Swedish, deep tissue, sports massage, Tui-Na Chinese techniques, percussion, cupping, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, Thai stretching, and Mayan fertility abdominal massage, among others. Above taking a hands-on approach to help a patient recover and relax, she is motivated to educate patients about their bodies, injuries, movement, habits, and stretching to empower each patient to help themselves.

Benefits of Massage Therapy
We often only think of massage as a way to relax and pamper ourselves, while many studies support massage as capable of many health benefits. Even relaxation itself can lead to better digestion, a stronger immune system, pain relief, and emotional relief. Massage can help guide someone’s nervous system into a parasympathetic state. This is the opposite of the sympathetic “fight or flight” state. In the parasympathetic state, our bodies can rest, digest, and repair. In this relaxed state, your body can better absorb nutrition, fight disease, and produce the hormones we need for sleep, fertility, and much more. When we experience stress, the body will divert blood away from the digestive organs, the uterus, and our immune system is weakened. The time we spend in a relaxed state drastically improves our health and wellbeing, because stress has been shown to increase blood pressure, anxiety and depression, infertility, and heart disease to name just a few. Massage is also great for pain and injuries by increasing blood flow to the injured tissue which speeds up healing and by releasing the constriction of scar tissue. For these and many other reasons, massage is a great way to take care of yourself.
Here at Mind Body Spirit Acupuncture Clinic, a Certified Massage Therapist will work with your individual needs to create a customized massage experience. We utilize ancient Mayan wisdom during our Maya Massage treatments. These treatments focus on the low back and the abdomen to increase blood flow to the ovaries and uterus, to assist the lymph system in it’s detoxification role, and ease the pain of menstruation and endometriosis. It can also be useful in treating a tilted uterus. We can even train you to do these massage techniques at home on yourself to increase its impact. We use Swedish, Deep Tissue, Myofascial, and Trigger Point techniques to ease pain, treat injuries, and improve muscle performance. Paired with acupuncture treatment, massage is a powerful tool used for many health benefits.
